Scottish National Portrait Gallery – AUTISM-FRIENDLY EARLY OPENINGS AND WORKSHOPS
All families affected by Autism are invited to explore the Portrait Gallery before the doors open to the public and take part in creative, sensory activities.
Sat 14 December – Light and Dark – have a peaceful time with the twinkling lights of the Great Hall and make garlands from our sensory materials.
Sun 26 January – Behind Closed Doors – Open cupboards, look inside. Make your own ‘lift the flap’ artwork.
Sat 29 February – Sights and Sounds – Listen carefully to the sounds of the gallery as you climb to the top. Collect objects along the way and make your own gentle music amongst the portraits.
We provide a sensory map of the building to help visitors identify areas with changes in light, smells and noise. It locates seating areas and less crowded, quieter spaces. Printed copies are available from the front desk at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
