A pilot for a new project has been successful for students of Dalkeith High School who have autism to inform the design of their own youth club. A small group of students will work alongside Barnardos staff with experience of running clubs in Edinburgh and Artlink who will provide specialist activity of choice like film editing and animation.
The work will focus on what makes young people feel comfortable and excited about doing the things they love in the company of others. The hope is to create something locally to do something alongside others who share that interest.
The project was a joint application to the Scottish Library Information Council’s Innovation Fund and is an example where Midlothian organisations are working in partnership around gaps in opportunity for people with autism.
